As an instructor at Indiana University, I teach classes such as Human Sexuality, Women’s Health, and Personal Health. I also often guest lecture for other instructors when they want their class to learn about sexual response, pleasure, and satisfaction (my area of specialty).
Issues of sexuality come up (or make up the entirety of the course) and one of my favorite things to do in these classes is ask the students to submit questions. This is an exercise for their knowledge, but it is also a great way to get to know the students, even though I have no idea whose face matches each question. Sex is still a topic a lot of people are shy about, so when you give an anonymous forum for people to submit questions, you get the real deal.
Here are some of the questions that are most commonly submitted by undergrad students:
“How do I bring a girl to orgasm?” ← hands down, the most commonly asked question!
“Is it normal if I masturbate more than once a day?”
“Is there any way to increase the size of my penis?”
“I’m not sure whether I’ve had an orgasm or not, how can I tell?”
“What’s the best way to give head? How do I know if I’m good?”
“If I like anal sex, am I gay?”
“Is it possible to masturbate too much?”
“What is the average age people lose their virginity at?”
“I fantasize about the same sex [women], but am in a relationship with a guy, am I gay?”
I always keep the pieces of paper the questions are submitted on, who knows why, maybe I’ll write a book from them someday. To figure out the most commonly asked questions (listed above), I looked at the ones that had the most repeats, content-wise. Then, one of those from each made it up there.
I answered all of these questions in the classes I’ve received them in, but if you want answers to any of these questions, please, comment below (anonymously if you’d like) and I will follow-up with a blog that answers each of them for you!
Also, as always, we have a resource on Kinsey Confidential where you can submit questions and receive answers here.
I’m teaching a Human Sexuality class this semester with 80 students…I anticipate that each of these questions will be asked in that ‘questions’ class. I’m also sure they’ll come up with ones I’ve never heard before, but that’s what makes it interesting.
